WHAT IS P.L.A.G.U.E.?:
P.L.A.G.U.E. (Prevent Los Angeles Gridlock Usurping Environment) is a community action group opposing Caltrans' (State of California) proposals to widen the I-5 freeway from Genesee St. to Oceanside.
WHO IS P.L.A.G.U.E.?:
Four determined Del Mar residents: Carla LaPorte, Noel Spaid, Charles Richmond, and Norman Ratner.
WHY P.L.A.G.U.E.?:
Because someone HAS to stop it! The proposals include additions up to 22 lanes in some sensitive areas, especially in North County which has 7 ocean lagoons and other environmental areas that will be severely and adversely affected. The additional noise level will be so high it would reach Torrey Pines State Beach. Caltrans has stated that we cannot build our way out of gridlock and that is exactly what they are proposing to again attempt with 3-4 billion dollars. That is the proposed price now but that will double or triple by the time the shovels start.
